The hardest design hire is at a company whose customers are designers.
Frame.io’s users are editors, colourists, and creative directors. They evaluate an interface the way a chef evaluates a kitchen, and they are unforgiving about it.
That narrows the field sharply. A design leader who has built beautiful consumer products has not necessarily built for professionals whose livelihood depends on speed. We evaluated 460 executives and submitted seven, because the population who can hold that standard and lead a team is small.
