A long search with a short list is the signature of a genuinely rare profile. Marco needed a technology leader who could build a lending platform and operate across borders, and the population who have done both is small enough to name.
We look for the intersection rather than the larger of the two skills. The alternative is hiring someone excellent at one half and hoping they learn the other, which in a regulated, cross-border business is an expensive way to find out.
