Fundera
XXXXXXXX
A small business owner looking for capital has no way to compare offers.
Fundera built the marketplace that made it possible, connecting small businesses to lenders and letting them see terms side by side rather than one at a time. The company sat between a fragmented supply of capital and borrowers with no visibility into it.
the engagement
Fundera came to 33eleven Partners in 2017. We ran three searches over three years, building the technology and product leadership as the marketplace scaled.

PLACEMENTS
-
A two-sided marketplace in a regulated category. The engineering mandate covered the matching logic, the lender integrations, and the compliance surface underneath both.
-
Product leadership for a service where the user makes one high-stakes decision and may never return. There is no engagement loop to optimise, only a single moment that has to work.
-
Technology leadership at the executive table, two years into the relationship.
PARTNERSHIP INSIGHTS
A marketplace where the user transacts once is a harder product problem than one where they come back.
Most product leaders build for repetition. They optimise onboarding, then activation, then retention, and each loop teaches them something about the user.
A small business owner comparing loan offers does it once and disappears. There is no second session to learn from and no chance to recover from a bad first one. Every decision has to be right the first time, for a user who is anxious, under time pressure, and not coming back.
We look for product leaders who have built for consequential, infrequent decisions. It is a different instinct from the one that serves a daily-use product, and it is rarely visible on a résumé.
